Letter: 3rd-Year Anniversary: It is Fun to Grow

New York, September 4, 2018

Dear Friends and Colleagues,

Exante Data LLC was founded 3 years ago, in a ‘broom closet’ . But a lot has changed since then: Our client list has expanded to include a number of the world’s most high profile asset managers. In 2018, we added a new segment of data-driven quant managers to our client list; and we developed a novel, bespoke solution for systematic FX alpha generation for a large global private bank.

Our primary focus over the past three years has been building a unique data and research product. In late 2018, I visited a number of asset managers within Brazil’s growing wealth management industry to showcase our Global Flow Analytics platform. The feedback often was: “This is totally different from what we see from the sell-side banks” (and that is what we want to hear).

I will not go into detail with our business philosophy in this letter. It is summarized nicely in the RealVision video below, if you are interested in a bit more color.

However, as we look grow further and faster, we need to focus more on our organization’s structure and culture (rather than just our products). And for that reason, we are making a few adjustments that should facilitate faster growth in 2019 and beyond.

First, we are incorporating Exante Data, so that its formal name will change from Exante Data LLC to Exante Data Inc. (as of Jan 1, 2019). This will allow us to raise external capital (to build technology) more efficiently, and create employee incentives schemes more flexibly. In sum, it should facilitate growth.

Second, Ankit Sahni will assume a new title as President of Exante Data Inc. and take charge of management responsibility for a number of areas, including research and quantitative product development. I have known Ankit for 7 years, and this is a natural progression of his existing responsibilities at Exante, and it should leverage his unique skills. I hope many of you will also get to know Ankit in 2019, and benefit from his insights and analysis.

There will be further changes in store, which we will be announcing in coming months. But the basic vision is that we want to grow along various key dimensions. If you have any inputs for us in that regard, do let us know. It is fun to grow and to learn.
